House of the Lord

Without the temple we would not have the ability to return to the celestial kingdom. We would not have the ability to have our families sealed for time and all eternity and be bound in heaven. I’ve struggled with attending the temple. This is a goal of mine and has been for some time, I know that with regular temple attendance the trials in my (our) life can be much less. As I read the talks and quotes on this subject, it was impressed upon me the importance of the sacred ordinances that take place in the temple. Those sacred ordinances and the blessing that will be bestowed upon us now and in the eternities is so important.

Quote 1:  "The opportunity I have had to dedicate and rededicate temples has been among the most enjoyable and sacred of these blessings, and it is concerning the temple that I wish to speak to you today."

President Thomas S. Monson, "The Holy Temple a Beacon to the World",

April 2011 General Conference

Quote 2: "The Temple is the house of the Lord.  The basis for every temple ordinance and covenant -- the heart of the plan of salvation -- is the Atonement of Jesus Christ.  Every activity, every lesson, all we do in the CHurch, point to the Lord and His Holy House.  Our efforts to progrlam the gospel, pefect the Saints, and redeem the dead all lead to the temple.  Each Holy Temple stands as a symbol of our membership in the Church, as a sign of our faith in life after death, and as a sacred step toward eternal glory for us and our families."

Russel M. Nelson, "Personal Preperation for Temple Blessings"
April 2001 General Conference

Quote 3: "Within the sound of my voice are individuals who have received the ordinances of the temple and for various reasons have not returned to the house of the Lord in quite some time. Please repent, prepare, and do whatever needs to be done so you can again worship in the temple and more fully remember and honor your sacred covenants."
Elder David A. Bednar

Quote 4: "In addition to temples, surely another holy place on earth out to be our homes. The feelings of holiness in my home prepared me for feelings of holiness in the temple.

Quote 5: "Through further revelation to Joseph Smith and subsequent prophets, there has come an understanding of the provisions for temple work and the family history effords that supports it. Every prophet since JOseph Smith has emphasized the imparative need to provide all ordinacnes for ourselves and our deceased ancestors. Temple and family history work is one work divided into two parts. They are connected together like the ordinances of baptism and the gift of the Holy Ghost. Some members may not be able to do both works because of health or distances to temples.
Elder Richard G. Scott, "The Joy of Redeeming the Dead",
October 2012 General Conference

Quote 6: Temple. One other word is equal in importance to a Latter-day Saint. Home. Put the words holy temple and home together, and you have descirbed the house of the Lord!

Boyd K. Packer, "The Temple, the Priesthood," Ensign, May 1993

Quote 7: Take advantage of the blessings of the house of the Lord. What a privilege. Every man or woman who goes to the temple comes out of that building a better man or woman than he or she was when entering into it. That’s something that’s remarkable that happens with all of us. Is life filled with cares for you? Do you have problems and concerns and worries? Do you want for peace in your heart and an opportunity to commune with the Lord and meditate upon His way? Go to the house of the Lord and there feel of His spirit and commune with Him and you will know a peace that you will find nowhere else. Take advantage of it. What a great and wonderful blessing it is”

Gordon B. Hinkley (Wandsworth, England, stake conference, 27 Aug. 1995).

Quote 8:  The Lord will bless us as we attend to the sacred ordinances of the temples.  Blessings there will not be limited to our temple service.  We will blessed in all of our affairs.
Boyd K. Packer, "The Holy Temple"  Ensign, Feb 1995

Quote 9:  As we go to the holy house, as we remember the covenants we make therein, we will be able to bear every trial and overcome each temptation. The temple provides purpose for our lives. It brings peace to our souls—not the peace provided by men but the peace promised by the Son of God when He said, ‘Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Thomas S. Monson, "Blessing of the Temple"

Quote 10:  If you have not yet been to the temple or if you have been but currently do not qualify for a recommend, there is no more important goal for you to work toward than being worthy to go to the temple. Your sacrifice may be bringing your life into compliance with what is required to receive a recommend, perhaps by forsaking long-held habits which disqualify you. It may be having the faith and the discipline to pay your tithing. Whatever it is, qualify to enter the temple of God. Secure a temple recommend and regard it as a precious possession, for such it is.
